The Caledonian Canal at Clachnaharry
Added on 31 December 2022
The Caledonian canal runs from Inverness to Fort William and has some lovely walking sections along it. This is the Inverness/Clachnharry end where the canal meets the sea. The 60 mile long canal was built by Thomas Telford and includes Loch Ness, Loch Dochfour, Loch Oich and Loch Lochy. The railway bridge in the pictures is a swing bridge for the Far North Railway line. There’s parking in Clachnaharry village and the very dog friendly Clachnaharry Inn is just over the railway bridge for a spot of lunch. Another alternative is the Jammy Piece by the road swing bridge, excellent cakes and coffee, also dog-friendly.
